Since ARRI has joined the EU Project RACINE–S, a lot of investigation has gone into supporting archives in their daily work. Using input collected from conferences (fiaf, JTS, AMIA), and discussions with film archive staff and postproduction facilities, ARRI has come up with the 16 mm and 35 mm Wet Gate option to extend the current functions of the ARRISCAN.

The Wet Gate uses KODIKA SES liquid III instead of Tetrachlorethylene (Perchlorethylene). Tetrachlorethylene, which is commonly used for wet gates, requires specific and very strict security regulations in the laboratory and therefore has a lot of disadvantages. The ARRI Wet Gates work around these disadvantages by using a different kind of liquid.

Besides the easier handling in terms of environmental issues, another advantage is the liquid perfectly matches the refraction index of the film carrier. Dust and fluff are washed away and scratches are concealed before scanning. The Wet Gate system works on colour film as well as on black & white film stock.

The leakage free connectors and the approved gate exchange technology enable safe and quick operating. The liquid supply and return system are located in an extra chassis nearby the scanner and needs a compressed air connection and an exhaust system.

ARRI now offers a specially calibrated version of the X-Rite Hubble non-contact laser guided colorimeter. The Hubble enables ARRICUBE customers to make their own precise color measurements on all types of displays involved in the digital intermediate workflow at a fraction of the cost of high-end display color measurement devices traditionally used by postproduction professionals.

After the very successful introduction of High Speed Package 1 for the ARRILASER, there will now be another significant speed upgrade, available for any ARRILASER in the field. The ARRILASER at the ARRI booth will showcase the High Speed Package 2 which includes a redesigned electronic module to enable a true 16bit workflow, new Software package based on Linux with client-server architecture and database support, and a speed enhancement for both 2k and 4k resolution by a factor of 2 compared to the current speed specification of the ‘top of the line’ ARRILASER Speed Performance.

With recording speeds twice as fast as the current ‘top of the line’ ARRILASER Speed Performance, the upgrade doubles the capacity of the ARRILASER while the turn-around time for any record-out is cut in half. The combination of the redesigned operating software, 16bit processing and the new ability of remote service access, brings the ARRILASER up to today’s most cutting edge standards.

The ARRISCAN team presents its Digital Dailies Base Package. Using the unique concept of the ARRISCAN, the CMOS Sensor and the LED Illumination combine to generate a monochromatic image, so the ARRISCAN operator will now get a live b/w preview during winding (up to 2m /sec).

In addition, the Base Package also includes an additional speed increase:

• 1.5 fps @ 4K and 6K oversampled to 2K, pin registered.
• 5 fps @ 2K (2048 x 1556), pin registered.
• 8 fps @ 2K (2048 x 1556), pin registered, single exposure.

Additional features of the Base Package include flash and frameline detection.
