At IBC this year, ARRI showcased 3 ARRISCANs, each scanning in nearly 8 frames per second in 2K resolution.
The ARRISCANs are controlled by a single job database (central job management) and all the 3 ARRISCANs are scanning 35mm reels by keycode.
The speed of nearly eight frames per second is achieved for HD (1920 pixels per line) or 2k (2048 pixels per line) resolution. The ARRISCAN becomes a very attractive alternative to a HD/2K telecine in a datacentric workflow. A bundle of three scanners will cost less than current real-time scanners while offering significant advantages.
Pin-registered scanning
Perfect colour reproducibility due to closed loop LED illumination
Double Redundancy
The application ranges from creating digital rushes in HD to ultra-fast scanning for DI productions. "Creating rushes with the same film scanner that is used for the high-resolution scans creates a wealth of options for the post-production”, explains the Head of Application Engineering at ARRI, Harald Brendel. “Having rushes that match the hi-res scans in colour and geometry provides the possibility to use them not only for editing but for visual effect lay-outs and early colour grading as well."
Clients will have the choice to use the ARRISCAN in the way they want to:
High End Digital Intermediate work
6K, 4K, 2K resolution
Double flash mode for full dynamic range
Kodak Digital ICE technology for dust & scratch removal
Over 200 ARRILASER Film Recorders Worldwide
Established as the industry standard in film recording since its introduction seven years ago, the ARRILASER maintains strong sales in new and existing markets.
Technicolor Content Services have ordered five new ARRILASER systems with three going to Technicolor Digital Intermediates in Burbank, California and two film recorders to Technicolor Content Services Hollywood. The total number of ARRILASERS deployed at Technicolor facilities worldwide is now 24, making Technicolor the world’s largest ARRILASER user. Capital FX London expanded their ARRILASER fleet to six units and is now the biggest recording bureau in Europe. They also own two ARRISCANS and the customised ARRI Colour Management solution, relying on ARRI technology from the beginning to end of the DI process. With the increase of Capital FX facilities in the UK, this now means there are a total of 24 ARRILASERS within the UK alone.
The ARRILASER is the only cine film recorder to use three solid state lasers as a light source, setting the standard in productivity and reliability, while significantly reducing the cost of recording digital images onto film.
